Definitive Action Flick
This has the most beautiful shootout scenes ever filmed. Period. Woo directs an absolute masterpiece with an excellent script as well. It never gets better than this flick.

Hard Boiled, Hard Hitting, Hard to MISS!!!!
No person from Asain genre cinema to your everyday action nut can not put anything in recent years up against Hard Boiled. For me this was the film that introduced me not only to John Woo or Chow Yun-Fat but to the Hong Kong way of entertainment. For me I grew up being unindated with your Die Hard's your Teminater's and any other number of Hollywood flicks, I was looking for something different to see and even though I had niether heard of the director or star at the time the video cover just jumped out at me, for many fans out there, they have their Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan stories, mine is Hard Boiled, from the opening Tea house shot out all the way to the closing 40 min Hospitial finale I just couldn't believe what I saw. I didn't care through the lack of realistic gun play or fight scenes, the story telling combined with the camara work was so addictive you just lost yourself within that world. This is the film that opened up everything that I know today and has shown not just Hollywood but most of the west film world that if you wish to make an action film this is how it is done. Class has begun now pay attention..

Just like the first time
I've seen this movie so many times. In fact, it pretty much opened the door to HK cinema for me. I'm pretty excited about this DVD, not to mention the Bluray version on Midway's upcoming Stranglehold game!

A kick ass action flick
When one thinks of the best Hong Kong action movies, Hard Boiled has to be in the top 5 of all time. And could quite possibly be #1. This movie is one of John Woo's best along with The Killer and A Better Tomorrow. Chow yun Fat and Tony Leung Kive an all star performance as does Anthony Wong. The Action scenes are second to none, and The movie is almost all action. Don't miss out on this classic Woo - Fat collaboration.

Bullet for Bullet the best Action film period!!!
This movie is the benchmark for all Action movies that followed. The Matrix's lobby shootout scene was highly influenced by this film. I swear when the movie was over. Instead of "The END" credit to appear, I thought the word "OWNED" would appear. This movie OWNED Me.

Looks Like A Sexy Restoration, Treatment!
Altho the Supplements are not quite as valauble as the Criterion Collection release. Anyways, what's better than when u can finally watch a classic, important movie over again like it had been newly released in theaters yesterday!? Which CC didn't have the technology advanced enough back in '98 to be able to do. Both pros and cons for both releases. ANYWAYS, lucky to all that own a true BluRay; it'll be years away til I'll be able to afford one.
And when is A Better Tomorrow re-release comin out?!! That's the true original, innovative film that started it all!!
P.S. To those of u Die Hard fans waiting to watch the new sequel in a few days, don't forget to thank John Woo.

This is the best action movie ever!
I have always loved this movie. One thing I would like to know is if this movie will be released digitally remastered. I can tell by the trailer that the picture looks better but I would like to know for sure if it has gone through the remastering process. I can tell from the specifications that the movie will have 5.1 which will make seeing this movie again even better. Can't wait till July 24

BEST presentation of this film ever.
Throw out the Criterion version along with the HK legends version. This is the ultimate SD version of this film possible-cut the way Woo intended it to be seen. An absolute must buy-plus a $3 off next DD purchase coupon-that makes it a no-brainer.

Stunning and outlandish. The fighting is entirely unrealistic and even more beautiful because of it. The DVD quality seems great to me, and the artwork is brilliant. A definite must for any fan of Woo or Ringo Lam or Chang Cheh or any such. Really nice.

Excellent presentation
This is the only edition of Hard Boiled in the world so far that provides extensive extra features. The audio and video quality is very good, although I feel the 5.1 DTS is weak. Nevertheless the original mono is included, which makes it big plus. But I wonder, why the main credit sequence doesn't have any text at all, such as other cast, screenplay, music, etc.?

Excellent film but the DVD could have been slightly better.
The film is slightly cropped all around but the biggest problem is that the subtitles are actually dubtitles (translation of the english audio track, not a true translation of the Cantonese dialogue). Extras are great, though a Woo commentary and interviews with Chow and Tony would have been nice. Still waiting for a definitive release :-(

Classic HK actioner ... excellent DVD edition
What has been said about Hard Boiled has been told many times already in the past, so I'll just say this : To anyone who considers themselves an action film fan but has yet to see this classic yet (or "The Killer"), I feel very sad for you. This edition is very much a must buy and is packed with many special features on the second disc.
I'm liking what I've been seeing from Dragon Dynasty so far, good job sirs. Now hopefully Bullet in the Head is not to far off from being released ... and for the love of God someone please get the rights to Kar Wai's Ashes of Time ! ... Seriously. Oh. And Intimate Confessions of a Chinese Courtesan would be nice as well. Thanks. ;)

a complete action movie
Totally enjoyable and highly recommended. I have this along with the Criterion version. These are the best versions out there, although the criterion needs to be remastered (therefore DD has the edge). With that being said, when will THE KILLER be released. I would like to see some reasonable updates on this DD website with upcoming movies

One Of The Greatest Action Films Ever!
Chow Yun-fat is one of the greatest action stars to date. I believe he has not gotten the credit he truly deserves. This film shows him at the beginning of a great career. In my opinion, as a director, Jon Woo set the stage for many of the actiong directors today. I wish action films where more like this.

john woo is a good director,the movie was alright, had alot of demolition and bullets flying and everything was geting destroyed, thats what kept me entertained...BUT had good jazz music ,but im not a big fan of jazz.

A movie I actually sit down and watch.
Rarely do I find a film worth watching. Rarer still is a film worth watching again. This is one of those films. John Woo's Hard-Boiled is a true masterpiece in the action genre. The gunfights are a ballet of bullets and the characters are well developed and likeable. Woo does an excellent job of including all of his characters in the movie and making you want to cheer for our heroes. Well done John Woo and cudos to Dragon Dynasty for picking up this title.

I had never seen any of John Woo's Hong Kong Action films. I'm one of the people that had grown up on his American ones such as Face/Off and Broken Arrow. Even though I never seen any of his HK films, I've heard about them. I saw this movie at Wal-Mart and I thought 'If I don't get it then I'm missing out on the true John Woo film'. I bought Hard-Boiled and I love it the first time and kept watching it. This movie makes me want to see John's other films like Bullet in The Head and The Killer. The action scene that shock me the most was the entire Hospital finale that lasted over a hour. Here in America it would be IMPOSSIBLE to get away with what John Woo had done! Hard-Boiled is among one of my favorite action movies of all time and I hope Dragon Dynasty release The Killer, Bullet in The Head, and The Better Tomorrow films because I would spend my cash on them knowing it'll be worth it.

5 Star Film 3 Star DVD
This is one of Woo's Best next to The Killer, 5 Stars hand down, however some serious wind was takin out of the sails when I saw Dub Titles instead of the Proper Sub-Titles I want to buy this version for my Brother In-Law for X-Mas, but I'm having a hard time doing so because It just won't be the same with shlock up half-as* Dub Titles, I know Dragon Dynasty can do better than that, please don't cheap out on Production next time, I understand great picture, but Audio and Sub-Titles are just important. 2nd Disk was nice though.

Can't think of anything to say that does this movie justice
When i heard Dragon Dynasty was coming out with this i just about peed myself. I had an old VHS copy, but always wanted a good DVD. DD gave me a perfect DVD. This movie's a classic. I showed it to some friends who tried to say it was copying some Hollywood movie or another from the last 10 years. I promptly smacked them upside the head with the case and noted the original 1992 release date. They quickly shut up and, as the movie went on, noticed that the action was still better than whatever Hollywood movie it was they compared it to. We need more action movies like this, in which they don't mistake having slow motion every few seconds to be 'badass'.
